Norm Provan Dies – One of the greats of Rugby League passed away last night after years of battling with dementia. The St George Dragons released this statement:
The Dragons are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of immortal Norm Provan. A gladiator, warrior and a giant of the game, Provan’s legacy will be remembered not only by the Dragons but in rugby league forever. Never before, never again.
Norm Provan Dies
A Rugby League’s 13th Immortal and figurehead of St George’s unprecedented 11-year reign as NSW premiers between 1956. Norman has been immortalized in the grand final trophy nicknamed ‘the gladiators’ beside Arthur Summons. Pure sports network.
Provan holds the club record of 284 games for St George, achieved between 1951 and 1965. He played in the first ten of their record run of 11 premiership victories As captain-coach for four and made 30 finals appearances for the club over fifteen consecutive seasons.
