Giannis Antetokounmpo The Greek – Coming into the 2021/22 season Giannis Antetokounmpo (Γιάννης Σίνα-Ούγκο Αντετοκούνμπο) is ranked as one of the top 3 Basketballers in the NBA.
Giannis began playing basketball in Athens before entering the NBA draft in 2013. In his short career has received 5 all-star selections and is the first NBA player ever to finish in the top 20 of all relevant statistics being total points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
In 2019 and 2020, he won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award before turning 26 and in 2020, won the best defensive player. Only Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon have managed to do that.
His stellar heights are a far cry when as a youth he was hawking watches, handbags and other goods in Sepolia being the son of parents from Lagos. Until he was 18 he was stateless as Greece does not recognize birth in their country as entitlement to automatic citizenship.
