In scenes reminiscent of ‘malice at the Palace‘ when Nice fans Brawl At Soccer started by hurling objects at Marseille player Dimitri Payet just as he was about to take a corner 15 minutes before full-time. Payet was hit in the back so he picked it up and threw it back into the crowd.

One of his teammates did the same which led to Nice fans storming the field. Players and coaches from each team were escorted by security from the field. The referee having no alternative to halt the match for over an hour until things settled down.
After an hour, the referee blew the whistle for the game to continue. The Marseilles players were not up for it, preferring to stay in relative safety in the dressing rooms.
