Miguel Cabrera is only the 28th Major League Baseballer to hit 500 runs in competition and at 38 has a few years left to better that record. Paying tribute to the Detroit Tigers and his homeland to make this happen when the ball left the bat the crowd of about 15,000 rose to their feet as one giving the slugger a standing ovation. Miguel bowed to the crowd, taking off his helmet as he jogged to home when his teammates came out of the dugout to celebrate with him.
“It’s something special for my country, for my family, to be able to do this,” he said after Detroit’s 5-3 victory. “I’m really happy.”
He is the first player from the Tigers to reach the milestone
