Must read

High school Basketball is very important to players that are interested in pursuing the sport as a profession. It is the perfect time for young players to develop and build the right characteristics in order to succeed in the basketball industry. Playing high school basketball is the players first step towards growing and making a name for themselves in order to achieve greatness in the sport.

A perfect example of a high school basketball player that now has a promising future ahead, and has managed to build himself a name in the game is Mikey Williams, an American high school basketball player, born on June 26, 2004, in San Diego, California. The 17 year old rising junior stands at 6 foot 2. He plays as a shooting guard/point guard at Lake Norman Christian School in Huntersville, North Carolina.

High School Basketball

Williams first exposure to basketball was when he was just 11 months old. From then on he grew to love the sport, and started playing along the guidance of his father and mother. He used to play basketball at outside courts in his hometown, where he probably managed to practice the exceptional skills he has today. He even worked as a ball boy in his previous school San Ysidro High school. In eighth grade, he joined the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), where he rose to fame playing alongside Bronny James, the son of professional basketball player Lebron James. During his freshman year in San Ysidro High School, he managed to score an average of 29 points per game, with 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Due to this, he was named Player of the Year of the 2019-2010 national freshman boy’s basketball by MaxPreps. Williams is considered a 5 star recruit, and the number 5 overall player in the 2023 class by 247 sports ranking. The 17 year old combo guard will be eligible for the NBA draft in 2024. His games were even attended by NBA stars like LaMelo Ball, an American Basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets. This just shows how unique and special Mikey Williams is.

The high school superstar has gained a huge number of supporters, and followers due to his exceptional skills on the court. Due to this, Williams has now signed a deal with Excel Sports Management, a leading management and marketing agency that handles talents and potential superstars, in order to handle their name, image, and likeness (NIL). He is the first prep player to sign a deal and join a major sports agency, and the first high school athlete to make this huge move.

Mikey Williams

Mikey Williams is one of the most relevant and rising basketball stars of his age. He has even managed to build a social media presence with 3.2 million followers on Instagram. For the first time, young athletes like Williams will have the opportunity to make money from their NIL rights, after signing with Excel Sports Management. This is a huge step forward since previous rules prohibited young athletes from profiting off of endorsement deals, or promoting brands, and services. Today, Williams could earn a huge amount given the fact that he has established a name in the industry.

According to Mikey William’s father, the high school star won’t be playing basketball at his current school, Lake Norman Christian School, but will still be attending the school for classes. Instead, he will be playing for a program called Vertical Academy based in Charlotte. The Academy is owned by Mahlon Williams and Landon Eckles. According to Mahlon Williams, Vertical Academy won’t be sanctioned by any high school association. The program was created in order to produce elite athletes. Starting off with basketball, and eventually when the program grows, they would like to expand and have a program for tennis, softball, and volleyball.

Professional Basketball

Despite the huge success Mikey Williams has gained in his career, the player is still young, and still has a lot of improvement to do in order to establish a respectable name in professional basketball. There is no denying that the player has a bright future ahead of him, but there’s no telling what could happen in the future, especially since more and more competition are around. As long as he constantly puts in the effort to enhance those skills, then most likely he would be able to secure himself a spot at the top.
